The Door Featured in The NY Community Trust's "Boosting Mental Health Care in NY" Giving Guide
We're honored and pleased to have been featured The New York Community Trust's new Giving Guide, "Boosting Mental Health Care in New York." The guide highlights New York nonprofits dedicated to promoting emotional well-being, reducing stigma, and advocating for better access to mental health care.
The need for better, more accessible care across the continuum of mental heatlh services has never been greater. As our CEO Kelsey Louie asserted during his remarks at our Fall Gala, the mental health crisis among young people is escalating at an alarming rate, with rates of depression, anxiety, and suicide among young people reaching unprecedented levels.
According to the CDC, 44% of U.S. high school students experienced persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness and nearly 20%—that's one our of every five young people—seriously considered suicide.
That urgency makes it our moral imperative to address the worsening crisis head-on, to recognize our role as the architects of change in this crisis, and to find real solutions.
At The Door and Broome Street Academy, that means training our educators and staff to recognize the signs of distress and providing the right support for everyone who enters ours doors. We remain vigilant about ensuring that every young person has access to the mental health care they need, regardless of their background or economic status.
