Gothamist: On Preventing NYC Youth Homelessness via New Cash Transfer Program & The Door
We’re proud to be featured in this recent Gothamist article on The Door’s participation in Point Source Youth’s Direct Cash Transfers as Prevention pilot program, which provides youth ages 16–24 at risk of homelessness with one-time cash payments—direct funds they can use to secure safe, stable housing, including rent, housing deposits, application fees, or more emergent needs.
"We couldn’t be happier about the flexible funding that the Direct Cash Transfer Program provides to young people, who can use it for expenses that are truly beneficial as they seek to avoid homelessness," said Kelsey Louie, Chief Executive Officer of The Door. "This supportive, strengths-based approach helps establish authentic trust between The Door and its participants, promotes youth autonomy and empowerment, and strengthens self-confidence and independence. Housing stability is a cornerstone need, crucial to being able to shift from focusing on surviving to thriving. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Point Source Youth on this youth-driven pilot program, which helps prevent young people from entering the homelessness system to begin with.”
