CEO Kelsey Louie Named as Notable LGBTQ Leader by Crain’s New York

Congratulations to our Chief Executive Officer Kelsey Louie on being named a “Notable LGBTQ Leader” by Crain’s New York Business. This select annual list honors outstanding individuals within their industries for professional achievements and their commitment to equality. The list honorees are also selected for their public service activities—through mentoring, community initiatives, teaching, and philanthropy—as well as a dedication to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. 

A native New Yorker and the proud son of immigrant parents, Kelsey is also marking his first-year anniversary as CEO to The Door and Broome Street Academy (BSA) Charter High School. During that time, he has been integral to navigating both organizations through another tumultuous pandemic year—with both The Door and BSA keeping operations running throughout while moving smoothly and safely from virtual services back to in-person programming. Under Kelsey’s leadership, The Door will also soon be expanding its Bronx site, consolidating our two current Bronx offices into a newly designed 18,000-square-foot space that will enable us to better reach the area’s youth with the critical services we provide. Additionally, Kelsey is ensuring that substantial time and resources are being dedicated to the organization’s race, equity, and inclusion work. 

The Crain’s profile also highlights the expertise Kelsey brings to the organizations he serves—in LGBTQ issues, HIV/AIDS prevention and care, behavioral health, and homelessness, all issues that disproportionately affect LGBTQ youth. 

Prior to his tenure at The Door and BSA, Kelsey served as chief executive of Gay’s Men Health Crisis (GMHC) and chief operating officer and chief program officer at Harlem United. Kelsey was appointed to the New York Governor’s Taskforce to End the AIDS Epidemic in 2014. In addition to spotlighting Kelsey’s 19 years of leadership within social services, the Crain’s profile highlights Kelsey’s steadfast community involvement: Kelsey is an adjunct professor at the NYU Silver School of Social Work and an active LGBTQ+ advocate through his board service at the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC), the Network of Social Work Management, and Cause Effective.
