Broadway Star and Advocate Javier Muñoz to Receive The Door’s Change Maker Award
We are proud to announce that Javier Muñoz – acclaimed Broadway star and passionate advocate for equity and inclusion – will receive the Change Maker Award at Together We Thrive: The Door’s 2025 Benefit for NYC Youth.
Javier Muñoz is an actor and activist whose impressive body of work spans theater, film, and television. Javier is best known for starring and co-creating the role of "Alexander Hamilton'' as part of the original cast of HAMILTON on Broadway. He got his break starring as “Usnavi” in IN THE HEIGHTS on Broadway and starred in the world premiere adaptation of the Emmy-winning series, Schmigadoon. He recently starred in GALILEO at Berkeley Repertory Theater, opposite Raúl Esparza and the pre-Broadway run of the musical, THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA, in the role of “Nigel Owens” with music by Elton John.
Javier’s features also include MONUMENTS, LOVE RECONSIDERED, and THREE MONTHS on Paramount+. He voices a lead character in the Disney Jr. animated series, Eureka!, and has other TV credits, including recurring roles on Shadowhunters, Blindspot, and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Javier is also an outspoken activist for USAID, LGBTQ+ rights, a Global Ambassador for (RED), which fights to end HIV/AIDS, and a supporter of GMHC. His journey mirrors the courage and creativity we see every day in the young people who come through The Door’s doors.
Javier’s connection to our community is a special one: in 2023, he delivered the keynote address at Broome Street Academy’s graduation ceremony, inspiring our graduates to embrace their voices and chase their dreams. His words resonated deeply with our youth, and his ongoing commitment to using his voice for change makes him the perfect recipient of this year’s Change Maker Award.
On October 15 at Gotham Hall, we will honor Javier for his artistry, his advocacy, and his unwavering belief that young people deserve to thrive.
