The Door’s Counseling Center provides free and confidential counseling services to young people ages 12-21.

Using a variety of treatment approaches, Counseling Center counselors, creative arts therapists, and social workers provide crisis intervention, individual, group, and supportive counseling services to meet the diverse needs of young people. A psychiatrist is also on staff to provide therapeutic counseling and evaluation.

The Counseling Center is a pioneer in the use of art therapy and other expressive therapies as an alternative to traditional therapy. Through participation in sculpting, painting, ceramics and other creative activities, young people receive the support and treatment they need to increase their own awareness of issues that may impact their psychosocial functioning.

Counseling Center staff have special expertise in providing services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth; young people in foster care; young people currently or formerly involved with the juvenile justice system; HIV-infected and affected youth; and young people with substance abuse issues.

Group counseling opportunities include:

  • Substance abuse
  • Anger control
  • Stress and time management
  • Sexual abuse survivors
  • HIV positive youth support groups
  • Gay/straight alliance
