EPOCH: The beginning of a new period, marked by radical changes and new developments.

The goal of The Door’s innovative EPOCH program is to support and empower young people who are out of school and work to achieve independence and self-sufficiency. The EPOCH model, which now encompasses all of The Door’s career and education services for out-of-school youth, represents a breakthrough in The Door’s career and educational programming for young people.

The heart of the EPOCH program is the individualized attention and support services that young people receive throughout their EPOCH journey. Ultimately, the aim of the program is to place each young person in appropriate college, employment, and/or training opportunities.

Based on their abilities and interests, young people may enroll in EPOCH through three different entry points:

  • Infused GED provides out-of-school young people with the academic support they need to pass the GED exam, while simultaneously preparing them to enter the world of work.

  • Straight-to-Work offers young people a set of comprehensive workshops focusing on job readiness and career exploration, preparing them to earn the National Work Readiness Credential and seek placements.

  • CITE (College, Internship, Training, and Employment) connects young people with a range of educational and job placement opportunities geared toward financial self-sufficiency and upward mobility.

In addition to the ongoing support and guidance provided by Door staff, participants engage in wraparound supportive services, focusing on academic achievement, leadership, health education, and social and emotional development.
