The Door’s ESL (English as a Second Language) program provides education services for young people who would like to improve their mastery of the English Language.
The ESL program combines classroom instruction with real-life experiential opportunities. Students also participate in workshops through The Door’s Health, Legal, Career and Counseling departments to support proficiency in English while addressing issues critical to their development as a citizen and adult. Classes taught in English are offered Monday-Friday.
The INTERNATIONAL CENTER OF NEW YORK/CONVERSATION PARTNER PROGRAM matches an adult partner with a student to practice English through conversation. Partners meet on Wednesdays, 6-7PM. In addition, students from New York University’s Words Without Borders provide support and mentoring to students in the program.
