The Door’s Music Program provides a range of opportunities to study music performance and production, all offered free of charge at the agency’s fully-equipped Music Studio.
Current offerings include instruction in the piano, percussion, guitar, and turntables; music composition using MIDI technology; music production; and performance and broadcasting through the Door Band, online podcasts, and internet radio. The Door’s Music Program emphasizes culturally diverse musical influences, reflecting the agency's membership. All instructors are teaching artists with extensive experience in a range of genres and technical skills, providing a unique opportunity for young people to learn from artists with a diverse range of professional experience.
In Fall 2006, The Door is introducing a new opportunity for young people to pursue their interest in music in a yearlong program in music theory, performance, production, and appreciation. With the support of the New York State Music Fund, The Door has developed “The Lab,” an intensive music instruction program. Interested Door members should contact Bruce Mack, Arts Program Coordinator, to learn more about the program.
