Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
If you are worried about having a sexually transmitted disease, or STD, it is important for you to get tested right away. Call or visit the AHC. If you find out that you have an STD, both you and your partner (regardless of his/her age) can receive treatment at The Door’s AHC at little to no cost.
Emergency contraception (EC, Plan B or "the morning after pill")
If you are a woman who has had unprotected sex and are worried about becoming pregnant, you should ask about EC. This pill should be taken 5 days, or 120 hours, after having unprotected sex, and it works better the sooner you take it. Walk-in appointments are available; you may have to wait to be seen.
Pregnancy Testing
If you think you might be pregnant, you can come to the AHC for free pregnancy testing. You should wait until you are at least two weeks late for your last expected period before taking a pregnancy test in order to make sure it’s accurate. If you find out that you are pregnant, The Door is here to help. You can work with AHC staff to explore your options, including prenatal care, adoption or terminating the pregnancy.
HIV Counseling and Testing
The Door’s AHC offers HIV counseling and testing to all members at little to no cost. Young people who test positive for HIV will be referred to alternative health centers for primary care and comprehensive treatment.
