Door Members Receive Grant from the Usher Foundation

Congratulations to Hannington Dia and Amber Harrison, two Door members who applied for and received a $500 grant from the Usher Foundation to start a new program here at The Door.

Hannington and Amber are Talent Search interns hired through Learning to Succeed.  When presented with the challenge to start a new youth-led program, Amber and Hannington began attending meetings with The Council, a Talent Search program that guides Door members through the process of creating and implementing their own activities.  Through The Council, Hannington and Amber applied for the Usher Foundation Grant and proposed the idea for a news journal called The Stoop.

When asked how this program will affect the Door community Amber said, “The Stoop will serve as an informative journal which will update young people about programs and services in their community while allowing them an opportunity to express themselves through writing and art.”

Hannington described his vision for the journal: “The Stoop will be both educational and entertaining. It is targeted to the teenage population, so we plan on having updates about community programs, advice columns, movie and music reviews, and also a section dedicated to reader submissions.”

Keep an eye out for the first issue of The Stoop!
