About Broome Street Academy Charter High School
Broome Street Academy is a SUNY authorized school scheduled to open in August 2011 in Manhattan. The high school aims to improve the academic success of the City’s most at risk students. These include homeless teens or those in the foster care system, and those coming from very low-performing middle schools. Broome Street Academy is partnered with The Door, a youth services organization, providing a unique model that will seamlessly integrate a rigorous academic curriculum and youth development services under one roof. Lead by founder Jeremy Kaplan, the school hopes to serve as a national model for addressing the needs of this student population that is at risk of academic failure.
