Overview:
The EPOCH program is the start of a new period in a young person’s life marked by radical change and new developments. EPOCH is designed to help a young person assess, set and obtain their educational and career goals. The program specifically allows a young person to craft a personalized life plan defining the steps he/she will take to achieve those goals while developing the necessary skills for future life success and independence. The Learning Strategist will participate as a member of EPOCH team and be responsible for administering all forms of assessment. He/She will assist the Whole Group Instructors with using assessments to make lesson planning and grouping decisions.
Responsibilities:
- Administer multiple forms of assessment, including summative and formative assessments, and use these assessments to assist the classroom teacher with lesson planning and day-to-day instructional strategies
- Assist classroom instructors with teaching basic reading and math strategies in the small group and whole group settings.
- Demonstrate an understanding of an practice the principles of positive youth development
- Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team to increase services to specific youth populations and provide the appropriate plans for young people.
- Identify Young People whose learning needs require referrals to external services.
- Provide one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction for a wide range of learners, including students below, approaching, and exceeding grade level.
- Provide one-on-one tutoring and small group instruction for students learning English as a second language
- Use ongoing student assessment data to place students into small learning groups.
- Use group assessment data to determine the content and strategies covered during small group instruction.
- Train and provide ongoing support for instructional volunteers
- Place instructional volunteers in appropriate small group teaching assignments
- Maintain instructional volunteer paperwork
- Assist the classroom teacher with preparing and maintaining portfolio assessments
- Plan and facilitate test preparation sessions
- Provide extra coverage for instructors, when needed
- Attend all relevant meetings, trainings, workshops, and outside events
- Handle any appropriate responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor and/or director
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field required, Master’s preferred
- Minimum of two-experience working with high-risk adolescent population
- Experience working in Youth Development
- Experience in curriculum design and implementation
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to motivate and challenge students to achieve a high level of performance through rigorous academic performance
- Bilingual preferred; Spanish and/or Mandarin
Salary:
High 30’s to Low 40’s
