Overview:

The EPOCH program is the start of a new period in a young person’s life marked by radical change and new developments. EPOCH is designed to help a young person assess, set and obtain their educational and career goals. The program specifically allows a young person to craft a personalized life plan defining the steps he/she will take to achieve those goals while developing the necessary skills for future life success and independence. The Career Training Specialist is responsible for job readiness programs, trainings, and curriculum that support a diverse youth population in achieving their work and career goals. He/She will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to provide individualized planning and instruction for young people in order to develop their career interests, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate job readiness and work related training to a diverse population of youth, including a hard to reach populations such as foster care youth, out-of school youth, etc.
  • Act as a resource for young people as they grow and develop in their career interests and abilities.
  • Research and develop high quality work readiness curriculum materials that meet the needs of a complex adolescent populations
  • Prepare selected young people for various credentials which may include but are not limited to the National Work Readiness Credential and the National Retail Federation Customer Service Certification.
  • Provide project-based programming that allows young people to practice and demonstrate job readiness skills through the use of portfolios and including, but not limited to the National Work Readiness Credential.
  • Collaborate with the education instructional team to plan and develop lessons, projects and student exhibitions that help prepare young people in the EPOCH Program.
  • Facilitate job readiness workshops within the context and the construct of EPOCH program programming
  • Support youth through the development of student portfolios, documenting milestones and other supporting interim achievements
  • Maintain comprehensive resources such as job listings and information regarding training, internship and higher education opportunities
  • Maintain all relevant data as it relates to the youth, contract and program requirements
  • Attend all relevant meetings, trainings, workshops and outside events
  • Collaborate with the Training and Business Development team to identify appropriate young people for advanced training and internship opportunities
  • Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team to increase services to youth and to continually make adjustments to provide the appropriate individualized program plans for each young person
  • Demonstrate an understanding and practice the principles of positive youth development
  • Handle any appropriate responsibilities and functions as assigned by supervisor and/or director

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree preferred, Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Sociology, Education or related field and two years experience in youth development, preferably employment and career oriented programs required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational/vocational programs for youth, labor market trends and opportunities for youth
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to outreach and engage young people in the educational and career development process
  • Ability to closely collaborate with colleagues and function as part of a team to promote successful outcomes for youth

Salary:

Low to Mid 40’s

Hours:

35 hours per week
