The Door’s mission is to empower young people ages 12-21 to reach their potential by providing accessible, comprehensive youth development services – health care, counseling, education, legal services, the arts and recreation – in a diverse and supportive environment. We are looking for a dynamic individual who can lead all aspects of our instructional programming targeted toward young people who have not been successful in traditional academic settings and are in need of a variety of alternative strategies to succeed academically. This individual will take the lead in shaping and defining The Door’s instructional programming by developing assessment instruments, reviewing and refining our curricula and training and supporting staff in progressive, outcome driven instruction. Applicants should have a strong knowledge of the academic and social needs of youth who are both in and out of school.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and facilitate all aspects of instructional programming, including assessment, curriculum development and the development of specific learning strategies for target populations
- Promote literacy and learning, utilizing current and progressive models for instruction that encourages life-long learning
- Provide on-going instructional and curriculum development support for staff and volunteers
- Lead teams of instructors and volunteers to ensure comprehensive and integrated academic support services
- Develop assessment and goal setting instruments and coordinate staff and volunteers through the implementation of these processes
- Coordinate comprehensive academic services for special populations of students, including specialized tutorial services when warranted.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the NYCDOE and off-site community agencies, as required.
- Work as part of program team, and work closely with other program staff
- Other duties as assigned by program supervisor
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field. Master’s degree preferred
- Previous experience in literacy instruction, programming, curriculum development or special education preferred
- Enthusiasm, creativity and initiative in working with young people
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
- Ability to participate as part of an interdisciplinary team

$22/hour
