Supervisor, Secondary Opportunity Schools (SOS)
overview:
The DoorÕs SOS Program (The Key Academy) is a collaboration between The Door and the New York City Department of Education serving a population of high school students who have received a one-year school suspension for highest-level infractions. The goal of our SOS is to provide a supportive educational experience incorporating creative arts therapies and other innovative approaches. The Supervisor will provide leadership and oversight to all counseling functions within the program, including supervision, clinical consultation and quality assurance to counseling staff. In collaboration with the Assistant Principal, the Supervisor will manage the day to day operations of the school consistent with the NYCDOE chancellorsÕ regulations and the mission of The Door. He/she will work with other supervisors and management across the agency to ensure integration and accessibility for SOS students to other programs within The Door. Candidates should have experience in urban educational settings, be able to supervise a team of MasterÕs level therapists, and have progressive educational and therapeutic ideologies.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the implementation of counseling services in the program consistent with the needs of the students and the requirements of the NYCDOE work plan
- Provide supervision to a team of MasterÕs level therapists and one crisis worker
- Work in collaboration with the DOE to develop policies and procedures, design program schedules, and coordinate space utilization
- Practice behavior management that integrates youth development principles and ensures that the environment is safe and conducive to learning and growth
- Work closely with other departments and programs throughout The Door to ensure that students are connected to needed services
- Ensure all necessary documentation as required by The Door and the NYCDOE is completed in a timely manner
- Manage, refine and oversee all therapeutic aspects of the program
- Provide clinical consultation to Counseling program and other Door staff as needed
- Work closely with other supervisors throughout The Door to ensure integrative programming and policies
- Attend all SOS, Door education and management, and Department of Education meetings
- Other projects as assigned by Director
Qualifications:
- MasterÕs degree in Social Work, Counseling or a similar field
- Previous work in an urban educational environment
- Minimum of three years experience in adolescent development, including assessments and counseling
- Minimum one year experience in supervisory/coordinating capacity
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and creatively as part of an interdisciplinary team
Salary:
Commensurate with experience
