Position Title:

Nutritionist

Supervisor:

Health Education and Outreach/Director of Nutrition

Overview:

A trained nutritionist who is responsible for both providing comprehensive nutritional care and raising awareness among adolescent clients regarding their health needs. He/she is part of the Health Center team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assesses nutritional status of clinic population using anthropometric measurements, laboratory indices, and nutrition histories.
  • Counsels’ young people on an individual basis regarding nutrition, health, and food needs on a short and long-term basis.
  • Conducts group sessions on nutrition, health, and food, which are relevant to urban adolescents.
  • Provides emergency food packages and makes appropriate referrals for additional sources of emergency food.
  • Develops nutrition education programs for adolescents. Initiates and participates in nutrition/health fairs and responds to requests for nutrition information from community groups.
  • Participates in the training and orientation of students and volunteers in the service.
  • Assists with the operation duties of the nutrition office, such as the maintenance of statistical records and the acquisition of nutrition publications as needed.
  • Maintains accurate and complete medical charts on young people.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings, task force and Door meetings. Provides trainings when appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Health Services/Director of Nutrition.

Qualifications:

  • Should possess a B.S. in Food and Nutrition with three years of experience in community nutrition or a Masters Degree in Nutrition Education (M.S.) or Public Health Nutrition (M.P.H.) with one year experience.
  • Experience in ambulatory care facility, preferably with adolescents.
  • Must be R.D. qualified or eligible or working toward that license.
  • Must keep abreast of both current trends in nutrition and health issues.

Salary:

$25.00 - $26.50 per hour

10.5 hours (flexible)
